Practitioners
Dr Liam Casey
I am a clinical psychologist with a focus on LGBTQIA+ mental health. My doctoral research focused on the impact of 2017's marriage equality postal survey on LGBTQIA+ wellbeing, and I enjoy helping LGBTQIA+ folks discover ways to use their sexual and/or gender identity as a source of strength rather than stress.
In addition to issues of sexual and/or gender identity, I enjoy working with people experiencing anxiety, grief, and unhelpful behavioural patterns like people-pleasing, perfectionism, and procrastination. My approach to therapy is warm and practical: I want to make you feel comfortable, but also support you in the challenging task of developing knowledge and skills to help you manage the difficulties that life can bring.
Therapeutic approaches
While there are many different approaches to psychological therapy, I have focused my training and practice in:
- Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
- Schema therapy
These approaches have extensive research evidence supporting their use for a number of mental health problems.
